This is a link to a good law review article chronicling the impact of natural law theory on the early American nation and its courts. My overall take away from this piece is that natural law more often than not supported the use of common law in a decision in a case. This makes sense if we postulate, as Blackstone does, that no human law can contradict Scripture. In essence, it is saying that common law was driven by natural law. Therefore, it was only natural that it would support it in an adjudication of rights.
